Athlete News
2008 |
Liz Hoyer
competed in her FIRST ever XTERRA race in
Oak Mountain State Park in
Alabama. She took 3rd place
in her age division (35-39).
That might not sound like much, but
the race was a Regional Championship on a very tough
and super hilly course with some of the best
athletes from all over the country!
Even more impressive is that she just
started to mountain biking back in February. I
wanted to stop at Fort Pierce on our way up to train
in Clermont with the group for the weekend.
She agreed to check it out with me (I had never been
there before and was afraid to do it alone) I was
amazed with how well she just followed me through
the trail. Since then, she decided to
train for some off road races. At first
she could not really keep up but each week got
stronger and stronger and before I knew it she was
flying by me on the bike. Well, to top
it all off..........she went flying by me in Alabama
on the run descending down a very steep hill so
fast, I thought she was a PRO. I could
not be more proud or excited for her! Way to
go LIZ! We may be seeing her in
Maui yet this year!
Don Pingaro
set a PR at Escape From Alcatraz!
His goal was to break 3 hours this year. His
finishing time was 2:52:07! I have only been
working with him for a couple months but he has
improved quite a bit. He swam 2 minutes
faster than last year despite misjudging the current
and ending up having to swim against it a ways.
He had his best bike on a hilly course yet and ran
faster than last year despite a much deeper sand
ladder and some bad bottlenecking on certain
sections. Even more incredible is that
he did all that despite having a 2 day delay (and
arriving basically 1 day before the event) on
getting out to San Francisco due to a personal
family situation. Amazing Don!
Steve Homrich and Nadja Pritchard
competed in the
Big Sur Marathon
with their spouses as a relay!
They had a great time and enjoyed the race and
scenery.
They also competed in their first half Ironman at
Florida IM 70.3. Both athletes did really
well! Steve
finished in 5:36:22 and
Nadja in 6:25:33!
Kristy and Ralph Breslaw
had nice races in Panama City Gulf Coast
Half Ironman!
They both had a 30 minute improvement
over last years Disney Race.
Kristy finished with just over 6 hours with
a 6:01:22 and Ralph a 6:11:29. Way to go!
Don Pingaro
had a great race at Tri Miami. He
made the podium with a 3rd place finish in the 40-44
age division. All the rougher open water swims
we have been doing at group lately really helped
with the choppier water which set up a nice race for
him. He also had a great run! Nice job Don!
Tina Marie Pereira
had
a good race at St. Anthony's with a PR despite
starting in one of the last waves which lead to a
very hot run! Keep getting
faster Tina!
Nadia Fogel did well
in her first race
of the season at Tradewinds Race with a
3rd place finish
in the Women's 40-44 age division! She
had a PR with her run for a sprint race. Way
to go Nadia! nadia also placed 4th at the
Riviera Beach Trilogy race!
Liz Hoyer
did her
first every Ocean Swim Race at FAU (last year was
all lakes) and did awesome! She started with
me earlier this year and ahs been improving
tremendously. She came in at 1:01:25 which
placed her second in her division and 15th overall
female in a tough field of women. Way to go
Liz!
Sue
Caplan
improved her time by 36 minutes over last year at
FAU. She had an awesome swim, following it up
with a good bike and run! Amazing
improvement Sue! All that ocean swimming has
helped a lot! Keep up the good
work!
Kristy
Breslaw
took home hardware at the Nautica Race! She
had an awesome bike split with a nice swim and run.
She has been doing aqua going most of the year and
just started back running again not too long ago!
Great race Kristy! All the hard work in
the pool both swimming and running has really paid
off! |
New athletes are:
Don Pingaro-
Goals are to place well in the Lifetime Fitness
Series for Olympic Distance races. He will
also be competing in Escape to Alcatraz and other
local sprints.
Eric Levy- Goals
are to improve his performances throughout the
season and complete his first half Iron distance
race in Miami.
Steve Homrich- Goals
are to complete his first 1/2 and IM FL!
He recently ran Miami Marathon with a 4 minute PR!
Nadja Pritchard-Goals
are to complete her first 1/2 IM and IM FL.
Angella Price- Goal is
to complete some sprints and finish up the season
with an Olympic Distance Race at Miami Man
Liz Hoyer- To step it
up to the next level competing in several Olympic
Distance races and end the season with the Miami Man
1/2 Iron. She is also going to do some XTERRA
races this year!
Nadia Fogel-
Training for various Sprint and Olympic
Distance races this year!
I am also really thrilled to have
some of my athletes continue on with me for another
great season in 2008! Thanks for the
opportunity to continue coaching you in 2008!
Tina Marie
Pereira- has a great mix of races and rides
this year. She really enjoys mixing it up with
big races such as A1A 1/2 marathon, Florida Great
Escape, St. Anthony's, Bike Ride
Across Georgia, Vineman 70.3, Escape to Miami and
Miami Man 1/2 IM to finish off the season!
Sue Caplan is working
on her biking and has her goal race as Miami Man
International in November.
Larry Kraska has a goal
of completing his first
Ironman at IM FL. As a CEO getting the
training in has been tough, but this year he is
going to really go for it!
Jeff Berard- is
currently working on his strength and running with
sites on some Olympic Distance races throughout the
year.
Amy Ferguson- is back
to training again and getting ready for an Olympic
Distance race in Tennessee.
Kristy and Ralph Breslaw
-will return in January.....their plans
are to do the Nautica Race in Miami in April and
Florida 70.3 in May.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2007 Season
Congrats to
Sue Caplan for her third place age group
finish at Miami Man International Distance race.
Sue just started this year and could barely swim
when we started. When we first stated, she had
just completed FAU and almost drown in the swim.
She did not own a bike (only took spinning classes).
She improved tremendously as the season progressed.
Her last two races have included podium finishes.
She has been an exceptional and very motivated
athlete to train.
Kristy
Breslaw has also had an amazing year.
She has done a tremendous job coming back after the
birth of her son Jake. She is more physically
fit now than in the past and has had some
outstanding results the last couple races. She
did really well at the Disney Triathlon back in
September with a blazing bike split. She has
also improved a lot on her running over the past few
months (thanks to the Newton's forcing her to run
properly:)). She had a few mishaps at
the Miami Man which set her back a bit in the swim
and forced her to backtrack and run an extra mile
during the run (the course was not marked and there
was not a volunteer directing her and about 20
others)....but still had a good race finishing 7th
in her age group. Her training buddy and
husband Ralph had a
really nice race as well with a solid swim and bike
and good run. Congrats to both of you for a
nice end of the season race.
Amy Ferguson
had a really great race to end her 2007
season. Although her swim was not what
we had hoped, she did great on the bike and had a
very solid run. Her time was 30 minutes faster
than her first 1/2 in May which is GREAT!
She accomplished her goals for the race and year.
Hopefully we will get to see her soon or visit her
up in Atlanta!
Tina Marie
Pereira has had a mellow kind of year with
her triathlon training. She went for more
variety and mixed it up with out racing a ton this
year. She completed BRAG earlier in the season
focusing a lot on her biking which come through
strong for Miami Man. She says she does
not feel so burned out this year and is looking
forward to planning out next season with some more
fun and variety type goals. I invite all of
you to take her lead and doing something different
at some point in the season. It helps to keep
the triathlon season (which is a long one) much more
exciting and FUN!
Congrats to
Sharon Opkins and Ed Slominski for
successfully competing in Long Course World
Championships in France in July. Both athletes
had to overcome some major setbacks and injuries,
but both made it to toe the line and performed well.
It takes a lot of courage to train hard and race. Amazing and awesome job Sharon and Ed!
Congrats to new triathlete
Sue Caplan for doing
really well at the Trilogy #1 race in Miami.
After having a tough race at FAU, she contacted me
about coaching and has been super enthusiastic about
her training and has learned a great deal about the
sport in a short time period. She improved her
time and experience tremendously last weekend in
Miami. Look for continued improvement from her
throughout the season! Nice job Sue!
Congrats to
Tina Marie Pereira for completing the Bike
Ride Across Georgia in June! She rode almost
400 miles over the course of the week and camped out
each night at various locations. She said she
had a blast and ended the tour really loving riding
her Bike. She is looking to complete her first
century and plans on getting back to training for
Tri's again and completing the Mount Dora Bike
Festival Rides in October.
Congrats to the following
personally coached athletes
that competed in the FL IM 70.3! It was a
tough day of racing on a tough course.
Special congrats to first timers Kristy, Ralph and
Amy!

Congrats to
Farrell Simon and Edward Mark for completing IM
Arizona on April 15th. Both athletes
are first year triathletes that had a huge goal of
completing an Ironman! I tracked them all day
on IM live and was able to watch them come over the
line! They both looked really great and
finished with a respectable time in the 13 hour
range. They learned a lot about
the distance along the way and are ready to take on
another one!
Congratulations, Farrell and Ed.....you are IRONMAN!
Congrats to Athletes that raced
well at the FAU Triathlon on
April 15th. Ocean conditions were
rough, but all athletes finished well. My
Beginner first timer group all finished the race and
did awesome! Below are the results from
athletes that I have been working with this past
winter (personal and groups). * stands for 1st
Timer! Check out the forum for more
comments on the race.

2006 Season
Thanks to all the athletes
that came out to the Holiday Party on Sunday
December 17th.
Check out the
Photo Gallery for pictures from the party.
Congrats to athletes doing the 1/2
IM and International Distance race on November 12th.
The majority of them are beginners this year and
this was their first 1/2 IM or International
distance race. Sharon
Opkins placed 1st in her age group and
reached her goal of qualifying for
Worlds next July in France.
Everyone finished which is awesome for their first
experiences; some having an awesome experience while
others learned some valuable lessons along the way.
Everyone did a great job! Be very proud of
your accomplishment. Thanks for all your
hard work and ending the year with a great turnout
and accomplishing your goal of finishing! Have
a great holiday break and off season.
Check out the pictures in the

Amy is a true first timer. It was
her first race ever!
Congratulations to
Maria Price for her
outstanding performance at Ironman Florida on
November 4th. Maria has been such a joy to
coach. She managed to train super hard,
communicate extremely well with her coach and follow
just about everything on the training program.
All that is tough enough, but add on being a super
mom to her 2 daughters, wife to husband Mike and
also working full time; not to mention only starting
racing triathlons 2 years ago....it is incredible
what she accomplished. Her determination and
perfect race execution landed her a
11:48:10 first time IM finish
along with 9th place in her age group of 82.
Her splits were a 1:18 swim, 6:14 bike and 4:02
marathon. It was awesome to watch her
come in after each segment looking strong. She
reeled in over 400 runners with her 4:02 marathon at
the end! Congrats Maria
for such an awesome race! And
THANK YOU for having
faith in your coach and the program enough to
execute your race so well! Hopefully we
will see Maria in Kona one day in the future!
Congrats to
Linda Lardino for her Masters Overall Female win at
the Ultimate Athlete Competition in Quiet Waters
Park on November 5th. Linda placed
first in 5 of the events which included several
strength and explosive type challenges. There
was swimming, mountain biking, running, kayaking,
tire flips, tire pull, truck pull and others.
Linda trained very hard for the competition and the
hard worked paid off! Congrats Linda!
Congrats to athletes that competed
in the Tradewinds Last Chance Triathlon on October
22, 2006. It was a beautiful day to race and
everyone did well. Many athletes used the race
as a training race to get ready for the Miami races
in November. Great job by Kristy Breslaw
for racing only 3 months after giving birth to her
son Jake! She did awesome!

Congrats to
Jane Kluczkowski for a wonderful race up at
The Danskin Triathlon in New
Jersey. She improved her time over the
FAU tri by over 2 minutes with a twice as long swim
and longer 3 mile more bike. Her run split was
8 minutes faster and she ran the entire way.
Way to go Jane. Awesome improvements!
All those group ocean swims, bikes and brick
transitions along with training really has paid off.
Special Congratulations to
Tim Devereux
for completing his first IM! He completed his
IM Arizona in a stellar time of 11:40:36. His
splits were 1:07:41 swim, 5:37:43 bike and a
4:41:45 run! Stay tune for a race report when
he returns from Arizona! Way to go Tim!
You are an Ironman:)!
