Taking Youth Triathlon by Storm!

Team South Florida Lightning  Took
I Tri'ed Kids Triathlon at BCC by Storm!

Three of our team members that competed in BCC I'Tried November 2011.  The team took home 3 First Place Age Group Finishes in the 7-11 Wave!

Congrats to Katie Pinnell, Hannah Fowler and Karly Ruskin!  They all did awesome and had a ton of fun!  Katie aged 11 had the fastest time for all the competitors (boys and girls) for the 7-11 division which included a 100 yard swim, 2 mile bike and .5 mile run with a 1.5 minute cushion with a time of13:27.  Hannah aged 8 was 2nd overall in the same distance and wave (7-11) with a time of 15:01!   1,2 overall finish is amazing, but the best part was HOW MUCH FUN they had participating as a team!

Come out and join us with all the fun for the 2012 season!  Practices will be started the first week of March to prepare the team for races taking place in May (FIU Miami Kid's Series and Iron Kids Florida in Lake Eva on May 19th).

ABOUT TEAM LIGHTNING

The team was formed to bring together youth and junior athletes that are interested in learning more about the sport and developing the skills necessary to participate (and compete) in a race well.  Proper technique, training and fitness are emphasized based on athletes ability and/or age.   So far, we have had much success with team members having great race experiences and finishing high in their age divisions.  They all go into the race knowing what to expect, how to do well for every aspect of the race!

The tri practices are designed to serve as a complement to other team sports or activities youth kids are already participating in.  It is not meant to be a how to swim program.  Athletes will be required to be about to swim 50 yards in the pool and know how to ride a bike.   Athletes are encouraged to sign up for their local swim teams to get the necessary practice they need for swimming.  This is highly recommended for this age group!  The program will teach athletes how to take those basic skills and build upon them.  Bike skills will be stressed quite a bit (it's Coach Racheal's favorite, plus she is a certified bike coach as well).

The program is for children aged 7-17.

Team Practices include skills for transition, bike skills to prepare for Youth and Youth Elite events, swim skills needed to participate in a triathlon in open water and in the pool, conditoning, stretches, games and so much more.  This is a small clip showing part of a practice sesison with a couple of our team members.  We also incorporated some swim practice and entire run through of the 3 disciplines.

The goal will be to develop both fundamental and advanced skills needed to participate in the sport of triathlon while also promoting healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship, safety, camraderie and fun!!!!

Variety of venues, age appropriate activities along with games and challenges will be incorporated to keep it FUN!

Opportunities for Camps or Training Trips will be offered if there is interest.

Youth and juniors interested in higher performance will have the option of more advanced coaching (a training program and personalized coaching) to help them prepare for bigger races/regional and national events.
