I love my foam roller. I bought mine online @ www.power-systems.com two years ago. I've used it on my cranky IT bands, glutes, quads and it also gives me great relief for my upper back and shoulders. You can find a bunch of info on the internet on how to use them effectively.

I did my first track workout yesterday at Boyd Anderson High School.
I think it is organized through the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Road Runners but anyone can attend.
$5.00
There is a coach there that has different workouts for whatever you are training for.

I did a 1 mile warmup
8 X 200m at 65%, 100m easy, 100m intense, 200m easy
some 100m sprints with the group at the end and then a cool-down/stretch.

Overall, it was good.....and it is a fairly convenient location for me.

Cheers!

Yes! I have had on-going IT Band issues for over a year and the only thing that has consistently helped is the foam roller. It is worth getting the better version on-line which is about $35. They last longer and keep there shape. I use it about once a day to roll-out tightness in hips and along the IT Band up and doen the outside of the leg. It is not pain-free method, but feels good afterwards. I have used it on all muscle groups though and just make it part of stretching routine etc.

Good luck...

Does anyone use foam rollers or anything that works well to help tight muscles when a daily massage (ok, even weekly) is out of the budget and sore, overused body parts need some help?

I have been looking for help with gait, stride etc and this might be most effective way. My schedule is a bit hectic, but if after 5pm or so or early morning, I would be interested. I live in Lantana, but would drive South if for private lessons etc.

I looked on Alan's website. It looks like he offers a 3 session clinic for $125 per person or a 2 to 3 hour private lesson. The cost of the private lesson is $100 and can be split among the people participating in the private lesson. I think the private lesson is the way to go. I have a friend who runs with Alan every Wednesday night. I will see what she suggests.

I have suspended membership for now while I figure out how to handle new athletes wanting to be members and next years membership. I hope to open it up in the next couple weeks to people that want to join now. Memberships for 2009 for renewing members will start in March.

There has been interest in getting uniforms for next year...and Eric Levy and Michael Kravit as well as The Racer's Edge are willing to help out with that. If you are interested in purchasing a uniform, please let me know. There has also been interest in a bike jersey....we are totally out from previous years. I will look into getting some new jerseys for the upcoming season. I will also be trying to obtain new sponsors for the 2009 Season in the next month...to help keep the cost of the uniforms and jerseys down. I will put together a sponsor package and keep you posted. Lots to do in the next couple months. Anyone that would like to help out with the club....please let me know.

Also, I started a FACEBOOK group for Gold Coast Triathletes. It is a great way to network with other members. It is closed to members only. If you are interested in the group, visit http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1613442179&v=feed&story_fbid=1011586342606#/group.php?gid=35004998019

Miami Man is on the same day as Ironman Florida next year.....so I won't be able to be there for it. I most likely will pick a race that lands on a different day (like Escape to Miami or some other olympic distance race).....so I can be at the race to support the athletes. I was also thinking more along the lines of the Spring races for now.

I will definitely do a open water beginner swim clinic...most likely in early February.

I thought about doing a Run clinic....in the past I have gone over proper running form to help you prevent injury in Run Group. The concepts are Evolutionary running which has similiar concepts as Chi Running....but is geared more towards running faster while also trying to minimize injury. Since I am no longer doing the teaching aspects for running group (just making it more of a workout group than educational)....I could possibly do a one day clinic on proper running form and drills.
